Current trends in affordable housing again came under the spotlight at our latest highly successful 7th IHS Affordable Housing Conference, which is designed to track changes in the industry. The event brings together industry leaders and stakeholders to discuss policies, growth, challenges and opportunities.
This year’s presentations included an in-depth analysis of the local and regional economic landscape, including the emergence of residential real estate investment trusts (REITs). The impact of the global energy crisis and advances in greening initiatives also received attention, in particular how to ensure more efficient use of energy, water and environmentally friendly building materials.
Former Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene reiterated the SA Government’s commitment to growing and developing the affordable housing sector. Other speakers, included Nedbank Chief Economist Dennis Dykes, political analyst Piet Croukamp, EPCM Global Engineering’s Abrie Botma and Vusi Thembakwayo.
